Career Management Model
Created by the W. P. Carey Career Services Center, the Career Management Model encompasses four essential themes of lifelong career management: Strategy, Market Research, Product Development, and Operations. The model provides a framework for achieving an immediate goal, as well as understanding how to revisit the essential themes and activities of career management for life. It is a central feature of career coaching and programming at W. P. Carey.
Career courses and coaching
Career Navigation Program
The Career Navigation Program is the core career curriculum for all undergraduate W. P. Carey School of Business students. This course series provides the foundation of how to use the Career Management Model and prepares you for program-specific career coaching. Each course is designed to provide relevant, curated career instruction for each year of your time at W. P. Carey.
Year One: Encourages career exploration and identification of professional interests through the utilization of the career management model and other resources available to students in the W. P. Carey School of Business.
Year Two: Assists sophomore students in identifying their soft skills while creating a personal narrative that has reach and relevance as they engage with potential employers.
Year Three: Strengthens student networking and interviewing skills during their junior year while working to develop a professional network.
Year Four: Prepares seniors for the transition into the workforce by developing advanced career management skills with a special focus on design thinking.
Career coaching and guidance
Create a blueprint for your career, with partners you can trust. Undergraduate students have access to tailored, major-specific career coaching through the W. P. Carey Career Services Center. One-on-one appointments are available, whether you’re attending school 100% online or earning your degree on campus. We recommend that you meet with a coach early and often, in order to develop a career strategy and understanding of yearly career outcomes.
